Everyone and their mother is posting about this so, I might as well too...

...In the upcoming Archie comic book "Veronica #202" they will unveil a new gay character "Kevin Keller" to add to the "Archie" cast. They say that "Archie" comics wants to reflect the reality that gay teens walk the halls of highschools everywhere and it's time they walk the pages of "Archie" comic books. Spoiled Veronica will fall for Kevin, who's the new boy in school, not knowing he's gay. And Jughead uses the moment to get some revenge on Veronica by delaying Kevin from coming out to her too soon. Causing chaos and humor.

...This is a great step from a comic company and series that's been around since the 1940's. Archie comics have over the years dealt with racism, women's rights, drug abuse, molestation, HIV and aids prevention, teen issues and numerous serious and social issues over the years in a thoughtful manner and with humor. Their approach with Kevin is that he's gay and it's a non issue---like his eye color. No big deal. It's a simple and great approach. Readers can get to see him as a person first. Which can lead to more stories for the character as he develops. And boyfriends too--dating is always a part of the Archie world. You should also know that currently Archie himself is busy dating Valerie from "Josie and the Pussycats" which is an interracial relationship--and also a non issue, because that too is a reality of our everyday life. Overall, I think this is all very cool. I may actually have to go buy the issue.
