It's "Last Christmas" by WHAM! I have had too many last Christmas moments in my life. You know---getting your hopes up over some guy and then the huge let down when it doesn't work out. Ohhhh, the many special "presents" I've given to some fool who didn't appreciate it. But that's me, I'm a giver :) I know someday I'll find the one who will hold my heart and watch it burn as the song goes. And that's what life and this song is all about---recognizing relationships that don't work and moving forward to fulfilling, new relationships, with a man who loves you. PS, ignore the women in the video---we know that guys were the only thing George ever had on his mind.

Blizzard
But as far as people are concerned it might as well look like this...
**********************************************************************************Full on panic and chaos has set in. This is nothing new for this area. All my life panic is how the reaction to snow goes. Yet, we never seemed to get that many snow days off from school I remember. In other counties if someone spit on the road and it froze over night, they'd shut school down for a week. But not in my school district. But the panic always happens which causes a mad dash/feeding frenzy at the grocery store. As people buy bread, milk, water and toilet paper as if they've stop making them. Some people start filling up sinks and bath tubs with water, etc. It's mind boggling. The very worst storm I went through we had 4-5feet on the ground and no electricity and we managed for 3 days to keep ourselves warm, fed, and entertained until the lights came back on and we could get down our street. So, it's never as bad as it seems. But this all goes hand in hand with the worst drivers in snow on the planet. Who either drive slow enough to move backwards through time, or drive like the starting gun has just gone off at the Indy 500. Which brings me to my story from last night. I was on my way home in my "mach 5" and the snow had been coming down for about 2 hours...
I had just had a nice steakhouse dinner with family but seeing how the snow had started (and knowing the chaos it would bring) I got on the road at 9pm to avoid the madness. I drove 40 mins through some very heavy traffic roads and highways with no problems. It was coming down but the roads were wet and not really sticking yet. I'm within two miles of home when I decide to stop at the store to pick up some snacks. Knowing that since they were predicting a foot or more of snow that I would be hunkered down at home all day today---so some to snack on would be nice. It's close to 10pm by now and the 24 hour grocery is busy with people doing the same as me. I'm in the store for maybe 20 mins thanks to the long lines so when I get out the snow now is actually sticking to the road and my car has a thin layer on it. No biggie. When I pull out of my space onto the road I can feel the car shimmy and fishtail a bit. So, I put it in low gear and head home. Everyone is going slow which is fine because there are some hills with traffic lights and nobody wants to be hit. I'm at the last traffic light before turning into my building's underground parking. The light turns green and the only car in my on coming traffic that I have to worry about is a football field away. This turn is again on a downward hill so to avoid a spin out I'm turning slowly in low gear. But apparently, once the light turned green the driver of the oncoming car thinks the checkered flag at the Indy 500 is being waved and he goes from being a football field away to warp speed with headlights in my face when I'm in the middle of my turn---and he has no plans to slow down to avoid slamming into me. Granted he needs some momentum to get him up the hill but at the speed he's going he could push my car up the hill while he's at it. So I floor it and swerve across my street just in time to avoid being clipped by this jackass. I managed to keep my car under control and avoid the parked cars on the side of the road while cursing him up and down. He---I'm sure---has no clue of what almost happened and is probably lying upside down in his flipped over car in a ditch somewhere but, last night night drove safely past me and right up the hill, no problem. Friggin moron. Anyway, just a friendly reminder from me to you, even if you know how to drive in the snow be careful of the idiots out there who don't. And if you're an idiot who doesn't know how to drive---learn---because until then you have no business being on the road when there's snow on the ground. Anyway, whoever's reading this, whether you're on the east coast and snowed in or some place nice and tropical.....everybody stay warm and toasty and enjoy your weekend. :)

It's the Wednesday mini dance par-TAY!
It's MIKA's "Grace Kelly (bimbo Jones remix)" have a listen while you view the blog (no real vid to watch--couldn't find this mix with a vid.) I saw MIKA here in DC a few years back on his first album (also Sara Bareilles was his opener--she was unknown at the time and sang her future smash "Love Song". After which, I turned to my friend and said "that's a going to be a hit." her song came out about 4 months after that--and it was.) But back to MIKA, he was much taller and bigger in person than you'd think. I know he looks gangly in all his vids but, he has a rather large frame/bone structure in person--like a basketball player. And he seemed so down to earth, genuine and goofy--he tripped over cables, almost spilled his water on his keyboard, his white jeans kept slipping down revealing neon orange briefs---he was a hoot. He and his whole band wore teddy bear costumes for the encore. Just cute. And really sweet when talking to the audience, sharing some stories and you could tell the people in his show had fun with him and teased him like friends do. And yes, he really could hit all those high notes---dogs were barking for miles around. :) I need to get his new album. Enjoy.
Uga Uga
I have no friggin idea what this movie is about, I've never seen it. But I do like a loin cloth on a Tarzan guy.

It's the Wednesday Mini Dance Par-TAY!
It's Kylie Minogue doing a live updated version of her classic "Got To Be Certain" have a listen while you view the blog. I read she's in New York City working with producers on her new album, visiting with friends here and she's been loving her time in the US. Maybe she's finally ready to conquer America with this next album. And maybe like her friend singer Robbie Williams, she'll buy a home and stay. Cross your fingers everybody.

Lambda DC closing
Sigh, I was just reading on the "towleroad" that the "Lambda Rising" store in DC will be closing in early January. This store has been part of DC gay life for 35 years. The owner feels that it's original "mission" has been "accomplished" and it's time to close. I know this is not a new trend, other Lambda stores across the country have been closing for years (thanks to the ease of internet shopping and large bookstore chains having tiny gay and lesbian sections) but, it's still sad to see it go. This store was the first place I was taken to by my first gay friend, when I was looking for answers to all the questions I had about gay culture/dating/coming out/everything. I was clueless. My friend had been in therapy when he came out in college but, I wasn't interested in that. I wanted to research and explore it on my own. But I did need some tools. The internet wasn't so handy for me at that time, so I wanted books which I could refer to as needed. I remember walking into Lambda for the first time and how odd it felt. To be in a store where sooo much variety of gay interests were on display and no one cared about me actually being gay. It was a non issue. Much like the first time I went to a gay bar. After a while I felt really comfortable and at ease, browsing through all the subjects. The only downside at the bookstore for the first time, was being a little creeped out by the older guys looking me over like I was fresh meat. I hadn't experienced that in such full force before. But I got used to it. I bought 3 books that day. And came back over the years for other books, magazines, cds, magnets, one of those pens where the cop's uniform comes off when you turn it upside down, and my favorite thing to get there---funny birthday and Christmas cards. I'm going to have to go there one more time for cards before it closes for good. A few weeks ago the "Blade" newspaper had also folded but, the staff launched a new local gay paper, the "DC Agenda." So, maybe another gay bookstore will take it's place too. We'll see.

Wednesday Mini Dance Par-TAY!
It's "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit. Have a listen while you view the blog. This song is being used in a Palm Pixi commercial right now. I first heard this song a year ago last December, I was looking for new songs to get from itunes and did a google search for the best songs of 2008. Which lead me to a British list of best songs, and Sleepyhead was on this list. I fell in love with it. Very electro and trippy pop. I'm fond of Brit pop, dance and anything with futuristic electro sound effects--- so this song was perfect for me. I think it comes from being exposed to disco like Ami Stewart's "knock on wood" and Donna Summer's "I feel love" as a preschooler. My parents competed in disco competitions for fun and practiced on the weekends so I heard a lot of different styles of music for dancing. Disco, Samba, Waltz, Rumba, Swing, Country, Rock,---you name it. Which I'm very happy about. There was a time when you could hear all of that together in the culture. Here in DC now, our radio stations SUCK. It's the same crap on every station. It was good once upon a time. But not anymore. So I have to go looking for music every few months. And the British charts always have more variety of music styles. They are open to everything. And I like that. Occasionally, a song with a electric feel does well in the USA---like Beyonce's "Single Ladies"---seriously, admit it, that song sounds like a 1980's arcade game with a drum beat. But it only reached radio here because it's Beyonce---had it been by an unknown or British artist, USA radio wouldn't have even given it a chance. Like they do to poor Kylie and others. But maybe things will change back again. Anyway, this video is not the official one---IT'S BETTER than the official vid and fun.

Monkey in the buff
Thanks to a kind reader, we can all see more of Super Monkey here:http://www.ib4f.com/board/bara0/real/topic/400168 Unfortunately he seems to keep hiding his candy in most of the pics. But it's much more then I've seen before. Thanks reader! It's like Christmas came early :)
Super Monkey of steel
." Gawd, he gets a lot of attention from women who should know better. There are too many shots of him with random women wagging their va-jay-jay in his face. Oh wait---that's right, he's straight, so he enjoys it.
Now, he seems to have developed a friendship with muscled Super Daddy (I don't know his name so that's what I'll call him) and Super Daddy's girlfriend Super Blonde. So, there have been lots of pics of them together at the cons.
He went as red Superman, along with Super Daddy and Super Blonde as blue Supers. He also loaned those blue contacts to Super Daddy.
Ok so then Super Blonde went Lesbo for a kiss with Rogue...
And then Super Boy wanted some monkey love too. :)
And then later they all washed the hair dye out and then this crazy went down. Don't ask me what's going on.
Monkey seems a little too happy to see Super Blonde here...
He has a girlfriend of his own, whom he sometimes poses with on her site: http://www.cosplaydeviants.com/ where they seem to lose their costumes. I don't know still how much of his costume comes off. Apparently, all you guys are too cheap to join their site---just like me :) but I'm hopeful some Richie Rich who reads this blog will unchain their wallet and join and share the pics with us. Hint hint to you Richie :)

The Penguin
It's 2009, and the Penguin is still fat. No more excuses---he needs a makeover. Most criminals have plenty of time to hit the prison gym, workout and leave prison all buff. I say let's get him on a diet and exercise program and slim him down. He could have a whole new image. But if he insists on staying heavy, then he needs some buff umbrella boys in his gang.

My tradition...
I make time to sit and watch all 4 Thanksgiving episodes of "Will & Grace." Starting with the episode "homo for the holidays" in which Jack finally comes out to his mom on Thanksgiving. With a little help and support from Will. Will uses Jack's own question from years earlier when he helped Will come out; "Aren't you tired?" and Jack is tired of keeping it a secret and does come out to his mom.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
---or doing your own thing---whatever, just enjoy yourself. And be thankful. I'm thankful to still have my health, my friends, my job and all of my visitors and follwers---I thank each and everyone of you who check in each day. Thanks--and keep doing that. Now let's all have some dessert!

Wednesday pre-Thanksgiving mini dance par-TAY!
It's Juliet Roberts' "Do You Want Me." Have a listen while you view the blog. Yum, early 90's house, always up beat, full of energy with strong vocals. And just plain fun. You know, we didn't need the dance songs to have a deeper meaning/hidden depth back then--they just needed be fun and make you want to move your ass. Good times. Not sure if Juliet Roberts is available yet on itunes or not--she wasn't when I checked a few months back. Hopefully, soon.

The Mime
That's right, you heard me...the Mime. A once used Batman villain armed with electrocuting gloves and a silencer gun, going on an anti-noise related killing spree in an early 90's issue of Batman. I don't think they revived the character. But maybe it's time to---as a hunky guy with a troupe of evil mimes committing silent crimes in Gotham City.

It's the Pet Shop Boys "All Over the World." Loooove this song. The "Pets" always deliver. Have a listen while you view the blog. There's no official video for this song yet. This is a fan made video that has a shirtless guy dancing for ya--not bad.

Sad news for gays of DC...
I was sad to read tonight that the local gay newspaper the "Washington Blade" along with others, has folded. Read on from this article found on Towleroad: Window Media, the former publisher of Genre magazine, which also publishes the Washington Blade, Southern Voice, Houston Voice, South Florida Blade, David Atlanta and The 411 Magazine, reportedly closed up shop over the weekend. Its parent fund, Avalon Equity, run by David Unger, had been forced into receivership by the federal Small Business Administration in February. A notice was posted on the company's door over the weekend: "It is with GREAT regret that we must inform you that effective immediately, the operations of Window Media, LLC and Unite Media, LLC have closed down. Please return to this office on WEDNESDAY, November 18th, 2009 at 11:00 AM to collect personal belongings and to receive information on your separation stipulations. Please bring boxes and/or containers that will allow you to collect all your personal belongings at one time." A message from the editor (to whom the closing came as a complete shock) of the Southern Voice was left on the publication's Facebook page: "With deepest regret, as editor of SoVo, I have to tell you that we arrived at the office to learn that our parent company, Window Media, has shut down. While the 20 years of SoVo have come to an end, our civil rights movement is only beginning. I am personally grateful to all of the staff, and to all of you who have had the courage to share your stories. It has been the honor of my life to help you tell them."
Some of the company's websites are offline. This is sad news. The publications will be missed.
