R.I.P. spect...

... Award winning actress Joan Fontaine has passed. She was the star of one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock films "Rebecca"---the only?! Hitchcock film to win best picture of the year! It's a fantastic film.

...Joan plays a naive plain young woman, who falls quickly in love and marries a handsome rich widower, Maxim DeWinter---and settles in his gigantic mansion called Manderley. There she finds the memory of the first wife Rebecca maintaining her hold over Maxim and the household servants. Like a ghost, Rebecca's pressance seems to haunt everything there. But why? And who was the mysterious Rebecca?

...the film is full of Hitchcock style and treats to keep you on edge, from beginning to end. Watch the whole film below to see for yourself. And to see Joan's award nominated performance. She would later win the Oscar for her second Hitchcock film "Suspicion."

Movie time...

..."Flesh and the Devil" a silent classic from 1926. If you've never seen a silent film before this is a great one to watch. It's a classic that stands up very well, like other silent classics "the Phantom of the Opera", "Ben Hur", etc.

...The story is about two men Ulrich (Lars Hanson) and Leo (John Gilbert) who's lifelong friendship is torn apart by a manipulating gold-digging woman named Felicitas (the legendary Greta Garbo)...

...in real life Garbo and Gilbert fell in love during filming, and it shows on screen. Their romantic scenes are hot and intense. Many have said their chemistry on film rivals anything we see on screen today. That says a lot, considering this film is nearly 100 years old...

...In the film, the married Felicitas starts an affair with Leo. Which leads to a duel between Leo and her Count husband. The Count is killed but Leo (who is in the military) is sent away. Upon returning, Felicitas has married his best friend Ulrich (who doesn't know Leo and Felicitas were once lovers.) Felicitas begins cheating on Ulrich with Leo. And it leads to a gun duel between the two men, and to a shocking ending...

...the movie is fun, incredibly entertaining, is filled with lovely cinematography, and very homoerotic moments between the male stars. As their characters sort out their feelings for Felicitas and for each other. Enjoy!

Movie time: "The Fall"...

After a fall, Roy Walker; a movie stunt man with paralyzed legs, is recovering at a Los Angeles hospital in the 1920s. Alexandria is a child in the hospital recovering from a broken arm. She asks Roy to tell her a elaborate story to keep her entertained. In exchange for the story, he wants her to scout and steal morphine from the hospital's pharmacy---he tells her he needs it for his pain but, secretly he's planning to commit suicide...

...He tells her a tale about six men of varied backgrounds who are together on a quest to kill a corrupt provincial governor. But between chapters of the story, the realities at the hospital, his suicide plans and their friendship; the lines of truth and fiction begin to blur...

...this is a great film, with wonderful costumes and visuals, shot in various locations around the world. Plenty of eye candy to enjoy. And in addition to all of that...it has a great story, too. Look for it on Netflix.

It's movie time...

..."Pink Narcissus" is a dreamy, surreal, erotic independent film from photographer James Bidgood. It was filmed over the course of 5 years and shot inside of the directors apartment in NYC. It's imagery is decadent and full of fantasy. Bouncing from one dream sequence to the next. The film is considered a Gay Classic and has inspired many other photographers and artists over decades. It's easy to see why...

...you can find the film on Netflix or see below for the entire film that someone loaded to youtube. Unfortunately, the film quality is not good, as the film was not taken care of over the years. Still, it's worth a look.
