Former Blue Power Ranger, David Yost, comes out: "I walked off the set after being called 'faggot' too many times"...

In a three-part interview, David Yost, who played the Blue Power Ranger in the popular kids program Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, says he is gay, and discusses anti-gay harassment he suffered on set. Scroll down for part 3 of the interview where he talks about it...

... I always suspected he was gay myself back then. On the show his character had a quality that was sweet and kind----clearly his own gentle quality showing through the acting. Many comments on youtube from fans saying that for a kids show that taught moral lessons and unity, it's disgusting that he got this kind of treatment from the producers. Thankfully, he's happily now working behind the camera for various shows and seems as sweet as I remember him. Wow! And an actual gay superhero too! Discrimination on the job is still out there in America, we've all felt it at times or come face to face with it---I know I have. But don't forget we do have protections and options. Equal Employment, Lambda Legal and the ACLU, to name a few, that will gladly take on any employer, big or small who discriminates or stands by and does nothing while employees discriminate. ...Jon Lee from the group "S Club 7" recently came out. S Club 7 was a hit pop group from the late 90's, who even had a hit here in the US with "Never had a dream come true." S Club 7 I believe was put together by the same people who found the Spice Girls, so their songs had the same feel to them. I always thought Jon HAD to be gay, my (at that time bad) gaydar was going DING DING DING! So nice to know I was right. He's happy, and healthy and has made a successful career change to acting in the UK.

The issue with the new gay character, on sale in September...

In April, it was announced that Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character in the Archie comic book series would join the cast. We now have new info... Keller pops up in the pages of “Veronica” next month in an issue titled “Isn’t It Bromantic?” The cover for the landmark issue is now available. There's also a lengthier explanation of Keller's character from writer and illustrator Dan Parent. Apparently, his sexuality will be no big deal to the other characters in the Archie world - as it shouldn't be. He tells the Colorado Springs Gazette: "The introduction of the character also comes as Archie Comics has been working to bring more diversity to Riverdale.""'We’re trying to show that Riverdale is contemporary, and that it is a diverse and accepting place,' Parent said. 'At some point, you have to address these subjects.'""To the kids at Riverdale High, Kevin’s sexual orientation is a nonissue, Parent said. 'Their reaction is very nonchalant.' It’s a reaction reflective of the real world, he believes. 'My daughter is that age, she’s 16. I see in her high school that there are a lot of openly gay kids. It’s not even like a big deal.'”"One character who quickly becomes Kevin’s friend is Jughead, but that doesn’t say anything about Jughead’s sexual leanings, Parent said. Kevin and Jughead are fellow foodies. The reason they’re friends is because Jughead is the character you would befriend first, because he’s so accepting of everyone.'" But don't expect Keller to get involved in any hot action. Says Parent: “We don’t get into sexual situations with the straight characters, let alone the gay characters. It’s still a safe place for kids.” I think this is a great moment in comics (no hot action aside, which is fine, Archie has always been g-rated--hand holding, hugs and kisses) and I plan to support it by getting a copy :)
